Advice from the Cable Guy

Dear Friends,

My son told me the other day that he can’t stand it when he hears The Cable Guy on television say, “Git ‘er done.”  Lots of things bother me about The Neanderthal Man, oops I meant to say, The Cable Guy.  Yes, he has terrible grammar, but despite that I think we can learn a lesson from good ol’ Larry.

Is it just me or have you noticed a change in show and tell at quilt club?  I remember a time when quilters would be lined up on both sides of the room patiently waiting their turn to show finished quilts.   Haven’t seen that lately, have you?  I am wondering why.

Are you too shy to show your quilts, afraid that no one will appreciate your efforts?  Honey, if anyone knows the amount of work to finish a project, it is each and every member of quilt club.  And if we don’t show the proper appreciation, then shame on us.

Maybe you are not getting your projects done?  Why is that?  What is going on in your life that has edged out sewing time?  Is your sewing room unavailable?  Try hand work in another room.  Are you too tired from other obligations?  My advice is to just do it.  Don’t make me go on and on about all the therapeutic benefits to sewing.

I hope you will make quilting a priority.  I hope you will love yourself enough to take five minutes a day just for you.  I really hope you will bring your finished quilts for show and tell.  Those quilts are my inspiration.

Show and tell is my favorite part of the meeting.  I love looking at quilts, any quilts, your quilts.  Lately I have been feeling deprived.   So if you want me to get off my soap box, you will git ‘er done.  We’ll both be happy.

Sorry for the lecture,

The Scribbler
